Welcome to the Japanese YES plan! 

This class will meet every day from 6/1-6/18 from 9-2.  We will generally follow the following schedule: 

    -Hour 1:  Japanese spoken and written language:

    -Hour 2: Project and Research

    -Hour 3: Japanese movie or documentary

    -Hour 4: Mah Jong

Our textbook for Japanese language is Japanese for Busy People (AJLT) and Basic Kanji by Soga.

Day 1: Lesson 1- introductions,

        Geography simulation, Draw maps of Japan and discuss

          Anthony Bourdain in Osaka

Day 2: Continue lesson 1- Basic Kanji practice

        Work on Travel brochure for a trip to Japan

        Discovery Atlas: Japan

Day 3: Continue Lesson 1- 22 key expressions in Japanese

        Tampopo

        Work on brochure

Day 4: Field trip to Boston--   Museum of Fine Arts/Ginza Restaurant/ Tour of Chinatown

Day 5:  Lesson 2- Numbers worksheet (count to 99)

        Segment of Nova: World in the Balance

        Read Japan's Aging Society

        Ringu

Day 6:  Review lesson 2 numbers and vocabulary.  Do exercises in book

            Practice basic Kanji and write 5 letters in Hiragana.

            Japan biography project

Day 7: Continue lesson 2 exercises

            Practice first 10 Hiragana
