Sometimes cells are supposed to die after they have outlived their usefullness. Programmed cell death is called “apoptosis” (a-pop-toe-sis) and the cell is destroyed by all their lysosomes rupturing. The products are then shared with nearby cells so nothing is wasted. This happens as tadpoles lose their tails and grow legs, as caterpillars change inside their cocoon to buterflies, and as you lose the webbing between your fingers and toes as an embryo before you are born!
