Northeast Open Atlatl Paper

    The main purpose of this assignment is to encourage students to complete a hands-on project, attend an educational event and visit a museum on their own time, and to report on the experience. Students are expected to:
    · make a functional atlatl and dart(s)
    · participate in the championship and watch the primitive technology demonstrations, asking questions   of the participants
    · visit the museum exhibit
    · collect materials such as the exhibit guide, photographs, pamphlets from demonstrators
    · prepare an illustrated narrative  to be turned in for a grade

     The report is to be in narrative form using the first person (“I saw ...”) Write about the process of making an atatl and darts, preparing for the event, and the event itself. It is supposed to be a chronicle of what you have learned in this assignment. The minimum recommended length for the text portion of the report is 1200 words. The narrative should be typed and include illustrations either from photographs the student took at the event or from brochures, etc. the student has collected. In addition to the final narrative, the student should turn in any materials such as video or audio tapes, field notes from interviews, pamphlets and brochures, etc. The final grade for the assignment will be based on effort, neatness, presentation and originality.
