"Home, Sweet Home..."
WE MADE IT! The weather this morning was AWFUL! I
am sure that the waves could have easily been at least 3 ft*--well, at
least some of them were. I was so nervous about getting into the
water and to Canada--I didn't even think I was going to make it to the
point just ahead of the
campgrounds. But Brett and I did it--surprisingly because we
were always way behind the rest of the group (and when I say way I am not
exaggerating. Our boat was incapable of going fast). My arms
were like spaghetti by the time we made it to the 2 bridges. At one
point, I was about to throw my paddle in the boat and jump out of the canoe
and swim to shore, but Brett got me to stay in the boat. I don't
think he thought I was serious. :) Chad and Toban thought they
had it made and
were going to be the first to land in Canada, but they were a little
TOO confident and ended up being last! Serves them right, I thought,
considering that they hibernated in their tents for the last 2 days.
But oh well, what's done is done and today, looking back on the past 2
weeks, I have come to realize that I did something amazing. Its not
every day that you meet someone that has paddled 180 miles or so from his
home to Canada. I can do ANYTHING now! --Well , not anything.
I can't fly or breathe underwater, but that's ok. I felt so good
when we pulled out in Canada. It didn't even phase me to have the
grumpy, old lady in Customs stamp my book with a frown on her face.
I bet I was smiling from ear to ear. Maybe it was just the sun--considering
I am the SUN CHILD. :) I had a great time the past 2 weeks
even though it may not have seemed like it at the time. Now that
I am home and in my bed, I am able to look back at all the new friendships
and memories I have made and I can go to bed smiling. Thank you,
Mr. Peterson and Mr. Hooker. I found something that I did, when others
doubted me, and I had fun doing it. Maybe its a sign, or even some kind
of calling--there aren't too many things that I REALLY and TRULY enjoy
doing. But this was definitely one of them, so THANK YOU, and it's
been REAL. :)
