Emily Fagan: Senior
After we left Button Bay we headed out for Converse
Bay. Our paddle on Thursday and Friday was supposed to be our hardest
paddles. Thursday morning was really calm so the paddle was so smooth.
We got to Converse Bay in no time, but....that was a problem. We
didn't really want to be at Converse Bay so we had to back-track a mile
around a point and tuck into a smaller bay that had a boat launch.
By the time we got to the right spot I was so cold and miserable.
The day however did not end with our touching ground. We treked in
the rain to the place where the Beluga whale was found in Charlotte.
I guess it was neat to be at the actual sight where history was made, but
I was not too intrigued by an area on a railroad track that looked like
every other mile of track. Considerig the rain and the cold, I think
that I would have been satisfied with a simple history lesson. Back
at the boat dock we had a small game of stick ball. It was pretty
pathetic to attempt baseball with a stick, a dilapitated tennis ball, and
five people, but it was definately fun. We had to hold off on setting
up camp because we were not actully supposed to be camping at the boat
dock. This also meant that we had to conserve on tents. Up
to this point I had been enjoying the privacy of sleeping by myself in
my tent. I didn't mind sharing a tent, but I am looking forward to some
more solo time tomorrow evening. After dinner we had a little poetry
reading. A Coleman stove doesn't offer the same ambiance as a camp
fire, but it was fun to gather as a group and hear some good poems. The
reading didn't last too long because most people just wanted to get to
bed. Like the rest of the group, I'm hoping for a beautiful day tomorrow
so I can thaw out.
