Nicole Little: Senior
Waking up at the crack of dawn as we always do, we pack up camp, and eat our breakfast. We launch our canoes shortly after 8 o'clock, from Converse bay, to begin our days paddling. The water is calm and off in the distance we see the fog that is hovering over the open lake. I decided that the sight was so amazing that I would take a few pictures of the fog against the mountain range. As we paddled on the fog slowly faded away. We stopped for lunch on a little island about 2 miles from our destination. On this island we found an abandoned house with only 3 walls left standing. Soon after we ate our lunch we set back out on the lake. We paddled for approximately 45 minutes more, before we came upon Jim Kalbfleisch's house. After quickly unloading our gear and setting up our tents we relaxed, while enjoying the beautiful view. We then took our empty canoes for a 2 mile paddle to a wild life reserve where we saw a Great Blue Heron, a mink, large fish that were jumping to the surface of the water, and other wildlife. This reserve was quite impressive to say the least, and it was made possible by a few UVM students. We returned to the Kalbfleisch's house around dinner time.
We were ecstatic about the food drop that was to be taking place that night. A few parents put together a wonderful lasagna dinner and salad, as well as the food we would be needing for the next 5 days. After eating dinner we celebrated Efe's 18th birthday. The parents brought him a cake decorated with little canoes, that said "Where the river flow north".
Being so tired from our long day it took us no time at all to whined down, before we settled in for the night.
