Cartoon Assignment
Purpose:

To think analytically and critically about political issues

To explore the creative process
-
To demonstrate knowledge of your civic rights, duties and
responsibilities within the democratic process
-
To understand political cartoons and how art can be as persuasive as
written editorials
Due:
21 Nov. at the start of class
Imagine
that you work for a newspaper – local or national – as the editorial
cartoonist. All of the articles for the
day are in, and, now, you need to create a political cartoon. Choose a current issue and create a political
cartoon that clearly articulates your feelings on the issue.
To
consider while brainstorming:

What is your topic about?

What can you draw to symbolize this topic?

What group/person is directly involved with your topic? How do you feel
about this group/person?

Details:

You must create all of your cartoon
o
Your cartoon should take up a complete blank piece of paper
o
You can use a computer to generate images, but you should be the
creator of these images. (Ex. You should not be taking images from online and
slotting them into your cartoon, but you can create the image with a graphic
program or the drawing program.)
o
You should be prepared to present your cartoon
